Unlike its smaller sister-city, Vancouver experiences much more rain than Victoria, partially due to its proximity to the coastal mountains. But those same mountains provide all the alpine winter fun one could desire only a short drive from the milder, if wetter, metropolis. Just cross the Lions Gate Bridge to the North Shore and you'll find Cypress Bowl, Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour all promising to realize your skiing, snowboarding and backcountry dreams. At the end of the day, you can still descend into the milder climes of the big city. And with the season's shorter days come longer nights - Vancouver has the bars, pubs and nightclubs to make them worthwhile!
